Most water heaters have a metal plate or sticker somewhere on the tank, often close to the top, that lists a manufacture date or serial number.

What Your Photo Needs to Include
- When you take your photo, keep these things in mind so we can verify your entry: A clear view of the manufacture date or serial number tag
- Sharp, readable text, not blurry or cast in shadow
- The entire water heater unit visible in the shot
Photo Tips
- Turn on a bright light or use your phone’s flash so the label is easy to make out.
- Get close enough that the numbers and letters are legible.
- If the tag looks dusty or grimy, give it a quick wipe before snapping the photo.
- Take a couple of pictures from different angles in case one comes out clearer than another.
