Why do we have a dedicated Drain Team to handle Drain System Checks & Remedies? Simple.
Plumbers certainly could, but they simply don’t want to deal with Drains! Most Plumbers REFER Drain Problems to 3rd Party companies who may NOT be equipped to diagnose the causes of issues. They often provide ONLY rooting or digging.
Our Drain Techs have the tools & equipment on their trucks to “root” and “hydro-jet” drain lines and are highly trained to provide appropriate solutions!
Cast Iron Main Drains commonly develop “channel rot” on the bottom of the drain line, leading to leaking sewage inside or outside the home. While a main drain leak outside the home caused environmental concerns, and may NOT be an immediate worry, the “channel rot” grows until the cast iron line collapses and becomes an excavation issue! Once that happens, the drain line costs increase dramatically, ruining the yard and landscaping.
What causes “channel rot”? Detergents, food waste, human waste, the chemicals added to the water supply to make your potable water “safe” to drink and bathe!
Orangeburg Main Drains (paper construction material) eventually start to deteriorate from all the drainage materials. The integrity of the pipe can change from round to oval and eventually collapse, leading to excavation!
Settling soil, especially around foundation walls because of roof-runoff, clogged downspouts, other environmental erosion can cause PVC Drain lines to sag or “belly”, crack, break or separate completely and lead to the need to replace – sometimes a simple drain line “spot” repair is in order, often times a complete sewer main drain lateral is the replacement prescription.
Hopefully, there’s an outside maintenance access point (“clean-out”) available to view the drain line, clear & clean the line without bringing equipment inside the home.
Common areas to check – Tubs, Showers & Vanities (Hair & Detergents), Toilets, Kitchen Sink Traps (Food Waste & Detergents, Acidic Drain Cleaning Solutions). Remember, a plumbing item with a drain has a trap whose job is to hold liquids to prevent sewer gases from entering the living space. Chrome, Copper & Galvanized traps wear, especially when corrosive products are present in the trap!
