Dealing with Dripping Faucets

“But it’s just a little drip!”
That’s what homeowners say again and again. But it’s mostly an excuse to put off having to call us at Pronto Plumbing. It’s also not recommended unless you really, really, really want to pay for it later.

See, dripping faucets aren’t intrinsically problematic. Unless your forehead is under them, you probably won’t notice the sound. And it won’t show up in an obvious way on your water bill. (However, it WILL cost you money… it’s just that it will add up slowly.)

So what should you do about dripping faucets? Here are some suggested responses:

  1. Call us at Pronto and explain the situation. We’ll give you honest feedback.
  2.  Check the age of your faucet as well as the cost for a replacement faucet. If your faucets are older models, it may just be cheaper to replace them.
  3. If you’re a DIYer, you may want to take the faucet apart and make sure the washer and seat within the faucet are functioning as they should. If they aren’t, you will need to repair or replace the items.

Of course, the most important thing to NEVER do is ignore it. Think of a dripping faucet as a symptom of a potentially bigger problem. If you don’t address the problem, the symptom is unlikely to disappear on its own.

Good luck, and don’t allow those drips to get the best of you!
