Another Saturday Night & we couldn’t get in!
Most of our friends know that we dine out at least twice a week – Always on Fridays & Saturdays, frequently Sundays.
Saturday nights we alternate from a favorite spot to a new-to-us restaurant. We thought we’d try Bonefish Grille that just opened near our office in Lower Allen Township at the (sad to say) closed Borders Book Store. Not only was it packed, the parking lot was so crowded there simply wasn’t room for us.
Our plans quickly changed, as waiting just isn’t in my nature! Boy are we glad we chose to go to one of our favorites – Magnolia, on Old Gettysburg Road, near (sad to say) closed Alpha Racquetball.
We were seated on the deck, at our request. There were several open tables, although the other tables seem to turn quite often with a mix of patrons from kids ordering their very tasty cheese burgers and wraps, to experienced diners. What a great evening to sit on their deck!
Brian, the Manager was quick to greet us – he has a great memory for regulars and always makes you feel welcome. Brian’s family had a restaurant in New York City and he has brought some of the NYC flair (and recipes) to Old Gettysburg Road!
Tonight’s menu had a prix fixe offering of salad, entree and dinner for $30 (a real steal!). I had the Grilled Wild Boar and Karen had scallops from the traditional menu. Oh my – delicious! We always enjoy their appetizers and tonight was no exception. Karen enjoyed the escargot – very tender and perfectly prepared, and I enjoyed the shrimp bruschetta. Wow! My strawberry salad was simply fabulous and Karen enjoyed the Greek salad. Dessert was great and well-worth the calories – chocolate peanut butter brownie with a small scoop of homemade Guinness ice cream.
We’re so glad we couldn’t get in at Bonefish, and astonished that Magnolia isn’t totally overwhelmed with business! Great service, great menu and a true dining treasure!
The biggest problem with Magnolia is – there are so many great dishes, it’s tough to choose, but you can’t make a mistake!
